Friesian Breeding through the years - 1970-1971 in focus.

This article was submitted by our breeder John Long, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

The Irish Friesian Breeders Association (IFBA) was founded in 1965 and by 1970 had grown to about 1,000 members throughout Ireland.

The Irish Pure Friesian Club is delighted to publish this list of early members to help jog memories and share our history. Bear in mind these pictures are from 50 years ago - a lot of water has gone under the bridge since!

These IFBA members were the pioneers of the breed. We acknowledge and salute them for their foresight and hard work. After all, the IFBA later became the Irish Holstein Friesian Association (IHFA), building on their endeavour.

Here we publish the membership list as it appeared in the journal all those years ago, on a county by county basis. We invite you to have a look and see if you recognise family, friends and neighbours, and we'd love to hear from you if you have memories to share or questions to ask. You can reach us on Twitter @IrishFriesian, on Instagram "Irishpurefriesian" or by email irishpurefriesiancommittee@gmail.com

This conversation is for everyone; Holstein breeders, Friesian breeders, people who have since left farming and interested bystanders.

We hope you enjoy your search!
