Pedigree Registered Pure Friesian Herd
Pat Cleary is the third generation to farm in Hugginstown, Co. Kilkenny, upgrading his herd to pedigree status when he took over from his father Martin. Pat qualified in Agriculture Science, beginning in Kildalton Agricultural College and continuing onto Waterford Institute of Technology. Pat focuses on using AAA, classification and researching blood lines to bring about the best quality Friesians he can produce. The herd prides itself on having cows that sustain the family farm, while producing bulls, for AI and for sale, heifers and calves that all have a value, and that are also able to produce cows that are of show quality.
The herd has been built up using mainly Dovea bloodline through the years, and then other British Frieisian genetics have been sourced that have brought through new blood lines.
The herd average for 2019 was: 6,912 litres, at 4.34% butterfat, 3.71% protein
The families that have generated the most milk, with high protein and butterfat are:
Carrickshock Dale, Carrickshock Daisy, Carrickshock Cissy.
The families that have been most successful in the show ring:
Blackisle Mabel, Carrickshock Dale, Carrickshock Aine, Carrickshock Cissy.
